My 1st In-Depth Post!!!

Posted by: | January 19, 2012 | No Comment |

Well, it’s that time of the year, when the grade 10s are realizing that their time in Talons is almost over and the grade 9s eagerly anticipating the (supposedly) biggest project of the year.

Yup, it’s time for In-Depth.

This year’s my first year, and just choosing an In-Depth, took forever. It took weeks of consideration, but I have decided to do ventriloquism.

You must either be thinking, “OMG. I WILL HAVE TO SEE THIS,” or “Really, you’ll be talking through puppets for 5 months?” Well, picking an in-depth was really hard, but I knew I had to do ventriloquism after going to Granville Island over the winter break…

I was considering many topics over the winter break. Magic, writing, painting, but you can’t really decide upon an in-depth topic unless it really stands out to you.  But when I visited the “Kites and Puppets” Store at Granville Island, all those puppets I saw spoke to me, and their voices needed to be heard. I felt like I had to share their expressions, so I picked one up and played around with it, making up voices and showing them to friends. And it really reignited an interest I once had for ventriloquism, so I knew from that instant I had to do ventriloquism.

You see, I guess you could call me a joker. And ever since I was small, I loved making people laugh; I would make stories up, make silly voices, tell jokes and just entertain everyone around me. And I really think ventriloquism will show that side of me. It will help me express myself and I really hope to accomplish great things through my In-Depth.

I don’t have a mentor yet, but hopefully my mentor will be Kellie Haines. She is a local ventriloquist from Vancouver with lots of experience in her field. I plan on meeting her once a month, and relying on her for advice Hopefully, she will reply to my email soon!

Before I leave, I will leave you with this. He was basically the main reason I wanted to do ventriloquism. After winning America’s Got Talent (Season 2), he is currently performing his own show at the Mirage, Las Vegas (I missed out on his tickets in Las Vegas because they were TOO EXPENSIVE [150 bucks]). I remember watching the season finale of AGT a few years ago and just being wowed by his skills (he’s not only an amazing ventriloquist, but just as good of a singer!), I hope you feel the same after watching this video of Terry Fator.
